To see from a distance trucks which incessantly challenge technical and human limits, makes us rise the wish to try the same thrill. Thanks to the special off road 4×4 vehicles and to highly skilled drivers will take you in a magnificent and unique scenery, where extremely detailed information about both ancient and modern methods of marble extraction, will be given.
Lunch might be arranged in Portovenere or in Colonnata, the oldest quarry-men's village, to experience an antique and unique food, the “lardo di Colonnata”, the only one of its kind in the world.
Afterwards we will visit Portovenere, which the picturesque maritime village dates back to the 12th century; with its multicolored houses and its calm and relaxed pace, reminds the magic lost times. St. Peter church, that still today seems to protect the village from the pirates, had been built in 1277 on top of the ruins of an old Christian church (5th century), in the same place where existed a pagan temple dedicated to the goddess Venus. Portovenere is situated just south of the Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera. Portovenere, on the Gulf of Poets, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its picturesque harbor is lined with brightly colored houses while narrow medieval streets lined with shops lead up the hill from the ancient city gate to the castle. At the end of your private day tour your personal driver transfers you back to La Spezia.
