Love in Cinque Terre:
The message in a bottle
.
Whoever says romance died has never been in Cinque Terre. The hidden beaches, the paths sprinkled with flowers, the sunsets that paint the sky with red are paintings that capture the heart. Today, to this is added a detail that not everyone knows: as Verona had Romeo and Juliet and Rimini had Paolo and Francesca, even the Gulf of Poets has kept a love story …

Manarola and the message in a bottle

It was last February when a policeman found a glass bottle on the shoreline of Manarola beach. What a surprise when he saw a folded sheet of paper; on the outer edge there was written only one word: “Pina”. The policeman unfolded it carefully and, among the damp spots, he read words of love.

“You had the sweetness painted on your face, as it still lingers in your eyes, with a little melancholy” says the writer in a sentence that, perhaps, he could not act in front of his beloved and that he entrusted to the sea. And a little later he recommends: “No! Don’t worry. Smile, smile, and your eyes light up with a whole new light ”

Who was the writer in love? To whom did he direct his words guarded by the glass of a bottle? Who was he thinking of as he listened to the surf of the sea?

The letter was published in the hope that someone would come forward to claim ownership. Unfortunately, no one recognized himself in those sweet sentences. The story of the two lovers will remain a curious story that perhaps, in a few years, someone will still tell.

The Cinque Terre, instead, the famous home of poets and a favorite destination for painters, also become the perfect journey for lovers: those who have not yet visited it, will fall in love with it; those who are already in love, will love it forever. Now it’s up to you: book your tour to the Cinque Terre and, passing, admire from above the glimpse of the Gulf of Poets. Treat yourself to some magic hours in the most romantic place in Italy.
